A Tree Hugging Business

An Essay on Beauty and the Superfluity of Creativity

It doesn’t take much to destroy a person. All one would have to do is convince him that the work he does is completely and utterly devoid of usefulness and meaning.

Fyodor Dostoyevsky

As the world turns.. The same stories seem to emerge. I am old enough to realize everything is stuck in a loop. The only thing that can help you escape the Matrix is… BEAUTY.

Not too long ago, I was a realtor. I engaged, investigated, probed, instigated and did all I could to get the most amount of information about this profession. My goal was to gather material for my Art, develop my Brand but mostly, learn How to Sell.

I have been ridiculed, laughed at, ostracized, bullied for wanting to run a business with my face on it. My ideas, my quirks, my struggle. I became a “Real Estate Artist” a la Truman Capote.

At some point someone called my business “A tree hugging business”. Referring to the lack of seriousness and utility of my proposal.

I was not mildly upset at this retort: I was furious!

Cut to a networking event in NYC (True Story)":

-Hi, my name is John and this is my friend Jacob. What’s your name?

I’m Filipa! Nice to meet you!

Filipa! Great name. What do you do Filipa?

I’m an actress.

An actress? Let’s go Jacob, she’s just a waitress.”

Creativity is not superfluous. It’s not a bug, its the feature that allows for Adaptation. It’s the skill that allows for pivoting. It’s the “Ceiling Breaking” ingredient.

It’s the SALT, in case you’re wondering why your chicken has no flavor.

Systems are created to sustain Creativity. Like a womb is created to “sustain” life. But life itself is nothing but a Spark of Pleasure.

Beauty is Creation. Systems are Re-creation.

Beauty is Production, Systems is Re-production.

Creativity is Original, Systems are xerox copies that allow for scaling.

Creativity Grows. Systems Multiply.

In today’s world of Digital Business and AI, we need Innovation, Adaptability and Differentiation.

Hi!

You’re reading “The Outsider” — the Weekly Diary of the American Dream. Every issue brings stories, ideas and characters whose lives intertwine with Real Estate. — Hope you stick around, we get better with time…

We need Complimentary Skills, Story Telling and above all BEAUTY. The world is full of ugly things already. Not Beauty as commodity or product. Real Beauty, the beauty contained in Truth and Cognitive Function, is vanishing from our world because we keep insisting it does not matter. We keep insisting they are afterthoughts.

Beauty is what attracts a bee to a flower: it’s creative scent, a preview of the pleasures about to unfold.

Fire made men mad with Desire to own it. Creativity made them beat a rock against another. Systems gave us Lighters.

From the Business standpoint, a System is invalid without Creativity. It’s Tupperware without food. Rendered useless without something to contain.

Creativity give Systems Meaning.

Without Creativity your products are stale, inbred and echo-chambered. An abandoned house, filled with ghosts. And they don’t even boo…

NO GRACIAS!

System are rational, they speak to the Mind. If you speak to the Mind, you’ll be heard. Maybe even respected.

Creativity is Emotional, irrational and utterly painful. If you speak to the Heart, you’ll get Paid. Loved. Wanted. Followed. You’ll be the Hero they didn’t know they needed.

Like Portuguese sailors in the vast Seas, navigation Systems were created by identifying points of reference in the Stars above them. Imagination came first, the system confirmed.

From the Dream Catcher System, to The Outsider Newsletter, to School-House.Roc: Creativity gave way to a system that allowed me to be Consistently Creative.

Once my emotions cleared up, I was able to see things clearly:

I do run a Tree Hugging Business. And trees are the BOMB!
