Ask Dr. Fil: Ramem & Real Estate
Gentrified & Denied
“I have been so broke, I couldn’t even pay attention”
Dear Dr. Fil,
After being terrified of the prospect of buying a home, I was finally feeling brave enough to take the next step. I started grazing some listings on Ziltron*, I’d made my vision board, found a place with exposed brick and no obvious demons. (Though a good Ghost could really make it clutch.)
I don’t really have a lot of money, my credit score just applied for an emotional support hamster and, unless I invoice God, my art doesn’t count as income (nah but fr).
I took the next step and contacted a lender
We had one good chat on the phone. I showed her all my receipts, w2, 1099s, tax returns, divorce papers and even mentioned my sensitivity during Mercury Retrogade. I thought we really hit it off. We even talked about the possibility of writing off Sage and Crystals as a Home Office Expense?
Then she vanished. No emails. No calls. Just vibes and silence.
What does it mean when your mortgage broker ghosts you? Was it me? My credit score? My astrological chart??
I couldn’t help but wonder… could a woman ghosted by a broker still get a house with character and a clawfoot tub?
Sincerely,
Gentrified & Denied

Dear Gentrified & Denied,
Thank you for your letter,
Let me be the first to say it:
Rejection is Protection.
The universe yeeted an unprofessional lender off your timeline so you could find someone real. Let’s call it cosmic curation.
But real estate ghosting is a thing. Brokers flake, lenders disappear, listing agents leave you on “read.” It’s not you — it’s a broken industry trying to pretend it's still 1998 while millennials are out here clueless and confused.
The first piece of advice I have for you is: Get who Gets You! It’s easy for some to get on their high horse and look down at broke artists who have nothing but a mattress, a pet and God by their side.
Having lived from paycheck to paycheck my whole life, faced evictions and a lot of hate from the Real Estate Industry for being “Unconventional”, I’m here to say: you’re no longer alone.
