Today’s Edition of “The Outsider - The Real Estate Newsletter for Rebels” is dedicated to a page from a book that changed my Life. The MREA. It’s a book that needs no introduction, as is one of the most sought after Real Estate books.

It’s emphasis on models and systems grabbed my attention since day one and I dare say it should be required reading for any business owner, artist, house-spouse and anything in between. My relationship to this book has been not one of Dogma, but Pragma. I have spent the last two years putting Gary Keller’s theories to the test. In fact, my goal has been to disprove all his theories. Not out of hybris, but sheer belief that only the Flaw contains the Truth. Having Nature as our master, we should have no issue accepting this premise, since everything contains itself and it’s opposite.

Early into the book, the author reveals to us that only two things are necessary to build a million dollar business: Systems & Creativity. Lightbulb Moment. I fell down to my knees and cried for a good 30 minutes ( as one does). I already had half the equation solved! I am a highly creative, highly Intuitive being. With the right systems, I could conquer the world! And here I am, truly trying my best.

Keller insists that Systems come first, then Creativity should be added to the mix. His theory is that starting with Creativity makes for shaky and unstable grounds.

Allow me to disagree.

Ideas always come first. Dreams precede Plans. Creativity is Chaos, Systems our Cosmos. What is there to systematize, if not chaotic ideas?

Obviously, they work together. Anyone who uses “creativity” as a shortcut or a way to cover up an ineffective system, will soon discover the error in their ways. Creativity requires a system and systems require creativity. But there is no “Only way” entry.

The Truth, as I see it, is that Creativity will show you the direction and systems will ensure you get there safely.

One of the best ways to create systems around your Creativity is to look for “ Points of Reference”. Saliences, distinctions, high points, highlights.

By identifying saliences in your ideas, we are able to identify blueprints. Once a blueprint is formed, a system can be created.

Like Portuguese sailors in the vast Seas, navigation Systems were created by identifying points of reference in the Stars above them. Imagination came first, the system confirmed.

From the Dream Catcher System, to The Outsider Newsletter, to House.Roc: Creativity gave way to a system that allowed me to be consistently Creative.
