A few weeks ago we discussed how many homeowners are sitting in an incredible amount of equity.
According to NAR, the average US homeowner has about $290,000 in equity. YES, YOU READ THAT RIGHT!
After we chatted about how much your home is worth, you find out you are sitting in a buttload of mula. What now?
There are a few things you can do with your equity. None of them are mandatory and sitting down with a realtor is NOT A PROMISE TO SELL YOUR HOME!
You can sit and do nothing: having a good amount of equity in your home doesn’t mean you have to do anything. You can just sit back and let it keep appreciating;
You can remodel and update your home: you can use some of that equity to put towards your investment by remodeling the kitchen, updating the bathrooms, installing new water heater, furnace or roof, etc. With proper guidance, you can use the money from your equity to make your home be worth even more;
Buy an investment property: use the equity of your current home to buy a second home and use that to further build your net worth and income;
Sell your Home: you can sell your home and use the proceeds to buy a dream home like a new build costume made to your needs, or upgrade to a bigger home, closer or further from busy areas, to a preferred school district for your family, etc.
Pay for Higher Education: You can use your equity to keep furthering your education and allow you to make more money, or send your kids to college to get a higher education, reducing student debt and securing a more promising future for your family;
