“All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible. “

T.E. Lawrence

There is this voice…

It does not stop. You know the one. A voice that can’t be quiet… Incessantly looking for a way to tell it’s story. It has been there since before you understood what it meant to own something, to build something, to stand in an empty room and see not what is there but what could be.

You know the voice!

Every person who ever bought or sold or built anything worth a damn has heard it.

You tried to keep it quiet. To Fit in. You stayed in the safe lane. The steady job, the predictable income, the sensible advice from sensible people who had never risked anything and were very proud of it. You listened to them for a long time and in many different ways and some of it almost made sense.

You told yourself the market was wrong, the timing was off, you needed more capital, more knowledge, more certainty. But almost is not the same as did, and waiting is not the same as preparing, and the voice knew the difference even on the days you called your hesitation wisdom.

So you held back. You watched other people buy the building you drove past every morning. You watched the neighborhood change while you were still thinking about it. You bound yourself with the fear of losing money, of making the wrong call, of looking foolish in front of people whose opinion of you cost you more than any bad investment ever could have. You made yourself cautious and reasonable and conservative and you fit yourself into the financial life that was offered to you rather than the one you could have built. Opportunity does not wait. The deal closes without you. The price goes up. That is what happens when you spend your energy managing fear instead of building something real.

Then one day you made the move. Not because the timing was perfect. The timing is never perfect. Not because you had eliminated the risk. You never eliminate the risk. You moved because you were tired of watching as The Outsider and the alternative — another year of waiting, another deal that got away, another conversation about what you were going to do someday — had stopped making any sense. That is enough of a reason. That is, in the real estate business, the only reason that ever actually works.

And you woke up.

Here is what I know about real estate - It is not a job you punch in and out of. It is not a transaction. It is not the spreadsheet or the cap rate or the comps, though you need all of those and you had better know them cold. It is something older and more serious than any of that. It is the human need to build, to own, to transform a piece of the physical world into something that did not exist before you got there. Every building you walk into has a story. Every vacant lot is an argument about what is possible. Every deal is a bet on the future made by someone willing to act while everyone else was still talking.

The Real Faces of Real Estate

The market wants your best. Not your leftover attention at the end of a day spent on safer things. Not the version of you that only moves when every variable lines up and every person you respect has given their approval. It wants the real thing — the investor who has done the work, knows the numbers, trusts the instinct built from years of paying attention, and moves when it is time to move.

The only thing this business asks is that you stay awake to it. That you drive the neighborhoods. That you know what things are worth and what they could be worth and understand the difference between the two. That you see the opportunity in the neglected building, the changing block, the motivated seller, the moment before everyone else arrives and the price reflects what you already knew.

Don't sleep through it. The deal is out there right now and someone is going to take it. The only question is whether that someone is you.

It won't wait forever. Nothing good does.

Life holding you bellow itself, the urge to experience it, to be a real human. To stop telling lies, finally. To cut the strings.

Life is not a job. An eternal chore someone forced upon us. Life is a Dream… A Dream that calls upon our best talents, our immense energy, our best selves. Life is a Dream whose only requirement is to be awake.

Don’t snooze on the Life of your Dreams…
